Blog 8: A subject I enjoy studying this semester

Hi everyone, I hope all of you have a great long weekend.

Today I’m gonna talk about a subject I enjoy this semester and that it’s “architecture and earthquake”. In this class we talk about the properties of an earthquake, the effects it causes and the different types of systems that we can employ in a structure to resist earthquakes.

This subject is really interesting because in Chile it’s important to make buildings to resist earthquakes because we have the Nazca and South American tectonic plates. These tectonic plates in the moment they interact, by the process of subduction, with each other produce earthquakes.  Another theme that I enjoyed in this class was to learn about “The San Ramón fault” because it passes near where I live. This fault crosses through the districts Vitacura, Las Condes, La Reina, Peñalolén, La Florida and Puente Alto. The fault is a vertical ground displacement and generally it is activated when there is an earthquake.

I really like this subject because I feel wiser and more prepared for the future in my career and I like it too because the teacher of that class is a very good teacher. He can explain the theme in many ways if you don't understand the theme and he is for your disposition if you have any issues with the class or at home.

See you next weekend ! :D

  1. The fault of San Ramón is very worrying, I found out about it from my professor of methods and practices of urbanism this semester.
